Colonel George Hays - Col. Hays was instrumental in bringing a colony of Scottish and Irish people to Boligee. Colonel Hays donated land to build the Bethsalem Church, which was organized in 1835.

 

Colonel John McKee (1771-1832) — built the first house in this town, Hill of Howth, in 1816. Born in Rockbridge County, Va., 1771. An agent of the United States to the Choctaw and Cherokee Indians, first U.S. Representative from Tuscaloosa District of Alabama, 1823-29. Died August 12, 1832. Interment at Bethsalem Cemetery. 

 

Henry Caufield arrived in Greene County in 1822. Henry was born 1767 in County Down, Ireland and died in Greene County in 1840. Henry married Mary Castles in Ulster, Ireland. Henry and Mary had ten children: John, Thomas, Sarah C., Henry, Letitia, Isabella, Elizabeth, Mary, Susan B. and William, all born in Ireland.

 

Bradley H. and Richard Ridgway - born in Kentucky and were in Greene County, more than likely with their father Rezin by 1821. Bradley was the commissioner of roads and revenue in Boligee. He married Elizabeth Bell in Greene County in 1832.

 

David Watson - Was born about 1809 in Ireland and arrived in Greene in 1823. David married Susan Caufield on 19 July 1830 in Greene County, daughter of Henry Caufield and Mary Castles.

 

Benjamin Williams - Born about 1798 in South Carolina; arrived in Greene County in 1823 and married Edna Hitt, also from South Carolina, on 7 February 1827 in Greene County. Edna was the daughter of David Hitt and Jane Meek.
