“THE DIXIE BOYS”
Below we publish a list of The Dixie Boys, a company of Pickens County, officially known as Company C. Twenty-Fourth Alabama Volunteers. The Company organized at Bridgeville, Pickens county, and volunteered for twelve months. They reorganized in Mobile in April 1862 for the rest of the war in the Hitchcock warehouse and were mustered into the Confederate Service at Navy Cove one and a half miles east of Fort Morgan.

We are indebted to Mrs. Tom C. McGraw of Jena for this list. Her father, J. C. Bonds of Jena was a Confederate veteran and was in the Battle of Atlanta. He with the assistance of J. Baxter Jordan, using a homespun blanket carried Lieutenant W. H. Dunlap off of the battle field at Atlanta, July 22, 1862, when he had his leg blown off by a Yankee cannon ball.
There may be descendants of the noble men who will be glad to find among his number either father’s or grandfather’s name.
