Hall |
Died - In this county, at the residence of
James McGiffert, Esq. on the 9th inst. of typhoid pneumonia, JOSEPH
ALLEN HALL, son of Jos. W and Mary E Hall of this place.
The subject of this notice was born near this town, on December 8th,
1859, and lived with only a short absence in our midst during the whole
of his short life. Thus his in-goings and out-comings and entire walk in
life have been seen by all in our midst. When it is added that he died
without an enemy, the character of that daily walk is known without
adding a word. The simple beauty and unselfish goodness of his life
though are not and can not be as well known by any as those who were
cognizant of his home life -- of that life, in which he removed silently
and lovinglig, all the little home cares and troubles from the mind and
heart of the mother and took upon himself all those little but onerous
duties which so lighten the task of her who has the care of house and
family and children. That thoughtful watchfulness, that silent and
masked attention, which warded off every care from the mother and
comforted her my his most telling assurance of a ? love for her, it was
his lot and his delight to render. That such a boy should be enshrined
in that heart of which he was so tender that he should be loved with a
love, if possible, beyond that of a mother, where he gave such silent
but powerful assurances of undying affection, is not to be wondered at
and that he is mourned and missed as few would be is only natural.
What could add to the beauty of such life, but a peaceful, hopeful
confident, lying down in the tomb with bright assurances of his clear
and undoubting entrance into the Kingdom of Christ? These most consoling
assurances he left behind via his last words and his messages to his
loved ones and especially to her, the idol of his young life, who
could not be at his side while he passed through the valley of the
shadow of death. These last words and the loving and tender messages to
his sick mother, were the fruit of that nurture and admonition and those
daily and hourly prayers over his cradle and bedside which ? and at last
brings them to the peaceful and the righteous.
May this deep consciousness of duty discharged and this bright hope
of a future meeting in the realms of the blest, give all consolation to
the bereaved but not comfortless family.
